Admissions 2017 Educational Qualifications:
The basic requirement is Master's
degree in one's subject i.e. M.A., M.Phil, M.Tech, M.B.B.S. or equivalent. The
applicant ought to score 55% marks in aggregate for a full time Ph.D. An
exemption of 5% marks is given to SC/ST/PHC. Also scores in National
Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC are required. The applicant who gets JRF
scores in UGC NET are at extra edge benefit as they get stipend for their
research. For PhD in Engineering valid GATE scores are looked upon. CSIR UGC
NET scores are needed for science streams. The applicant has to consult and
choose a guide who is an expert in the field of study and has Doctorate degree
from a recognized university. Many universities also conduct an entrance exam
after these requirements are fulfilled. Others organise Pre-PhD courses.

Admissions 2017 Age Limit:
The age limit for applying for JRF is
fixed 28 years by UGC, with a relaxation up to 5 years for OBC/SC/ST/PHC and
women applicants. So the applicant must be less than 28 years of age.If an
applicant doesn't apply through the NETs then there is no age limit for the
application.

2017 Application and Entrance date:
Universities'
web portals are open for inviting applications in the months of May and June
every year. Entrance exam is generally held in July or August.
The applications are collected via
online registration. The applicants may get the form from Form Distribution
Counter of the respective universities.

2017 Procedure:
One can apply online through the
university portals. The applicant should check and fulfil the eligibility
criteria beforehand and fill his/her particulars as asked in the form. Details
of one's marks, registration numbers, and year to passing degrees should be
kept handy. Application fee is to be submitted in the respective bank branch or
through net-banking. After the payment of fee, the applicant is required to
upload his/her scanned passport size photograph and scanned imprint of
signature. The form is submitted online. The applicant should keep a hard copy
of the form for future reference.
The applicant should keep a vigil over
the websites of institutions he had applied for. The result is announced within
a month or two. Candidates are chosen on basis of merit made with combined
marks of entrance and master's degree.
